10th Annual Safety Week Coming Up March 10-13, 2025

HOLLAND, Mich., February 17, 2025 —EV Construction, a leading West Michigan construction management firm, is hosting its tenth annual Safety Week. The 2025 event, will be held Monday, March 10, through Thursday, March 13, at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville, Mich., and the West Michigan Construction Institute in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The week will kick off with a Safety Symposium on Monday, March 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Pinnacle Center. Brandon Schroeder will present this year’s keynote, “Believe in Safety”. Brandon has been an electrician for over 20 years. On August 24, 2011, he survived an arc flash explosion that should have killed him. Brandon had a choice to make that day. He made the wrong one. It is his mission to ensure others don’t do the same. His presentation will educate and motivate attendees to prioritize safety in their daily lives and inspire us to bring that story back to those who we work with.

The event will also include a panel discussion, vendor exhibits and networking.

Vice President of Operations, Joe Novakoski, stated, “We are excited to have Mr. Schroeder join us to share his story. As an individual who miraculously survived an ARC flash, we feel his presentation will be very powerful. We hope the words he shares inspire the members of our audience to take the story back to their team members. Our goal is to reignite a passion for safety that will inspire workplaces to formulate new and better practices.”

Any person corporately responsible for managing the safety of their employees should join us for the Safety Symposium. The Symposium focuses on high-level safety programming and arms attendees with the knowledge they need to bring their company’s program to the next level.

Throughout the week, EV Construction will offer free training sessions to industry professionals in several practice areas, including First Aid, CPR and AED, Lift Training, OSHA 10-Hour, Qualified Rigger, Scaffolding, Excavation, Confined Spaces, and Lunch with MIOSHA. New this year, the event is offering two training sessions in Spanish – OSHA 10-Hour and the Fatal Four of Construction.

Employee training comes at a cost, the opportunity cost of time at work, but more so, the registration fees associated with training and certification programs. However, not training employees may have a greater cost. EV hosts the training and certification sessions for boots-on-the-ground personnel who need the training for their safety, and the safety of those they work with at zero cost to the attendees or their company. The event is 100% funded by EV Construction.

OSHA states that in fiscal year 2024, federal OSHA investigated 826 worker deaths, an 11% decrease from 2023. This is the lowest number of worker fatalities OSHA has investigated since 2017, excluding COVID-related deaths. These risks led EV Construction to host annual Safety Weeks to increase safety standards and reduce those numbers

“With greater education and enforcement of safe working practices, workplace deaths are slowly declining. We believe with continued training and communication regarding the importance of always putting safety first, we can play a role in decreasing incident rates further,” shared Tony Roussey, Chief Operating Officer for EV Construction.

Increasing workplace safety in West Michigan requires all corporate leaders to work together, particularly those in the construction, manufacturing and industrial fields.
