11th Annual Safety Week Coming Up March 9-13, 2026

Safety Week 2026 Grand Rapids Holland EV Construction

EV Construction, a leading West Michigan construction management firm, is proud to host its 11th Annual Alive365: Safety Week. The 2026 event will take place Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville and at EV Construction’s headquarters in Holland, Michigan.

Safety Symposium Kicks Off the Week

The week begins with the Safety Symposium on Monday, March 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Pinnacle Center. This year’s keynote speaker, Curtis Weber, is an international presenter who will share the powerful story of his near-fatal workplace accident and six-year recovery journey.

After graduating high school, Curtis planned to spend one final summer at home before moving away to pursue Junior A hockey. Instead, a workplace incident nearly ended his young and promising life.

On July 29, 1999, seventeen-year-old Curtis Weber was on his third day at a new job as a construction laborer in Saskatchewan, Canada. After an already long and demanding day on the job, Curtis and his coworkers found themselves behind schedule and under pressure to move faster. Their final task: using a crane to move a steel structure beneath an overhead power line. Before beginning, they briefly discussed the risks.

“But we had a job to get done. We were already behind. We identified the hazard. We assessed the risk. What more could we have done?”

Without a documented plan — and without clearly defining who would do what, when, and where — they proceeded as they had many times before.

Curtis will share what happened next, along with the physical and mental battle he faced during his long road to recovery. His story is a powerful reminder that identifying hazards is not enough — intentional planning, communication, and accountability save lives.

The Symposium will also feature vendor exhibits, networking opportunities, an interactive session about the cost of distractions on project sites, and more.

Any professional responsible for employee safety is encouraged to attend. The Safety Symposium focuses on high-level safety programming and equips attendees with practical insights to strengthen and elevate their company’s safety culture.

Free Training Opportunities Throughout the Week

Throughout Safety Week, EV Construction will offer free training sessions for industry professionals across a variety of practice areas, including:

In addition, three sessions will be offered in Spanish: OSHA 10-Hour, Aerial Lift, and the Fatal Four of Construction.

Employee training carries both direct costs and opportunity costs — including registration fees and time away from work. However, the cost of not training employees can be far greater. To remove barriers, EV hosts these training and certification sessions at zero cost to attendees or their companies. Safety Week is 100% funded by EV Construction to ensure boots-on-the-ground professionals have access to the training they need to protect themselves and those around them.

A Community Commitment to Safety

Improving workplace safety in West Michigan requires collaboration among corporate leaders — particularly in construction, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. Safety Week reflects EV Construction’s commitment to raising the standard of safety across our region and supporting organizations that share that mission.
