This semester, our team has had a front-row seat to something special.
Paige VanStee, who has been serving as a Safety Intern with us, helped lead the GVSU Women’s Basketball Team to the NCAA Division II Final Four and walked away as National Champions. The Lakers ended their season with a record of 36-1, winning their final 15 games to win Grand Valley’s second straight national championship.
Balancing the responsibilities of a collegiate athlete and a professional internship takes discipline, time management, and grit. Paige has exemplified all three. Whether she’s contributing on the project site or competing in high-pressure tournament moments, she brings the same level of focus, teamwork, and accountability.
During the postseason, Paige (#24) played a key role in the Lakers’ run through the tournament, helping secure a spot in the Final Four and ultimately a National Championship victory. GVSU defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania 72-49. Paige put up a game-high 25 points, to go along with 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Her performance earned her recognition on the Elite Eight All-Tournament Team. She was also named the Midwest Regional Tournament Most Outstanding Player and a WBCA All-American. What an amazing season!
For our team, it’s been inspiring to watch someone we work alongside compete – and win – at the highest level. It’s a powerful reminder of the kind of driven, well-rounded individuals we’re proud to support through our internship program.
At EV, we’re committed to creating opportunities for people to grow, both in their careers and beyond. Paige’s journey is a perfect example of what’s possible when hard work meets opportunity.
We couldn’t be prouder of Paige and the Lakers for an unforgettable season. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and staff on bringing the national championship back to West Michigan!
