At EV Construction, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s a core value embedded in every job site, every crew, and every conversation. As a recognized leader in construction safety, the company reaffirmed its commitment by hosting a powerful Safety Stand-Down event this week, uniting teams around a shared mission: sending every worker home safe, every day.
The event, held in conjunction with OSHA’s National Construction Safety Week, brought together project teams, trade contractors, and leadership across multiple job sites to pause work and focus on what matters most—protecting people. Work paused on the campus of Pine Rest where construction of the new Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health is underway.
“Safety isn’t something we talk about once a year. It’s how we operate, every day,” said Chris Smith, EV’s Director of Safety. “But the Stand-Down gives us a special moment to stop, listen, and reengage with our teams about how we can keep improving. It’s about accountability, empowerment, and respect.”
The event featured guest speaker Nikki Clark, MIOSHA’s Safety and Health Manager for its Construction Safety and Health Division. Over 180 employees and contractors attended the event.
This culture of care is what has helped EV Construction earn recognition as a safety leader in the construction industry, with a track record of incident-free projects and industry awards for excellence in its programming.
“When we stand down, we actually stand up—for each other,” said Mike Novakoski, President and CEO of EV Construction. “We’re proud of the work we build, but we’re even prouder of the people who build it. In recognition of that, focusing on their safety is the least we can do.”
