EV Construction: Celebrating an Incredible 2024

As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on an extraordinary year filled with milestones, achievements, and growth. We’re grateful for the support of our team, clients, and partners, and we’re gearing up for an even busier 2025. Let’s take a moment to celebrate some of this year’s highlights:

EV Construction 2024 Year in Review1000 Days Without a Lost Time Injury
In March, we celebrated a remarkable safety milestone: 1,000 days without a lost-time injury. This achievement reflects our commitment to ensuring that every team member and trade partner returns home safely each day. As of today, we’ve reached 1,282 days and counting, with a goal of hitting 1,500 days in 2025.

EV Construction 2024 Year in ReviewAward-Worthy Excellence
2024 was another year of recognition for EV Construction. We proudly held the title of Michigan Contractor of the Year (MCOY) for the third time and are honored to be nominated again for 2025. Additionally, we received the Excellence in Construction Award for General Trades from the Associated Builders and Contractors of West Michigan for our work at Holland Home Breton Terrace. We were also named a “Best & Brightest Company to Work For” in West Michigan and ranked among the Top 101 in the Nation.

Our 9th Annual Safety Week in March welcomed over 500 attendees. Hosted at the Prince Conference Center and the West Michigan Construction Institute, the event offered free training sessions and a symposium for our trade partners. Mark your calendars for our 10th Annual Safety Week, happening March 10–13, 2025!

EV Construction 2024 Year in ReviewRonald McDonald House Expansion
In March, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the “More Rooms, More Love” expansion at Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan. This project increased capacity from 17 to 25 guest rooms with private restrooms, revamped the kitchen, and enhanced operational storage. Since 1990, the charity has helped 10,000 families—and with this expansion, even more families will benefit.

EV Construction is headquartered in downtown Holland, Michigan. During Holland’s world-famous Tulip Time Festival in May, our neighboring Lakeshore Advantage Next Center project site joined the celebration with colorful EV tulip decorations. Even a downtown train conductor got involved, decking out their locomotive with festive tulips for its trips through town.

EV Construction 2024 Year in ReviewPine Rest Pediatric Center Kick-Off
We partnered with Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services to celebrate the groundbreaking of their new Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health. The community event featured food trucks, music, games, emergency vehicle and construction equipment interactions, an oversized sandbox, and even appearances by Sparty and Crash. Opening in 2026, the facility will provide behavioral health treatments to 18,000+ children and teens annually.

In July, we hosted the Future Builders event—a fun, hands-on “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” that introduced children aged 3–16 to the exciting world of construction. The event aimed to inspire the next generation of builders, engineers, and architects. Check the video recap of the event here!

At EV, we are thankful to have so many amazing client relationships that continue to build throughout the years. This year, we enjoyed hosting them for some friendly competition at Woodrows Duckpin inside the Amway Grand Plaza. The event featured bowling, delicious food, giveaways, and plenty of laughter.

In September, we rolled out new KASK safety helmets for all employees, replacing traditional hard hats. This investment enhances safety and protection for our team members across our project sites.

Grand Rapids Fire Station Groundbreaking
September marked the groundbreaking of the Kendall Street Fire Station, the first new fire station in Grand Rapids in 37 years. This state-of-the-art facility, designed to serve the Third Ward, will be a vital addition to the community for decades to come. It is ideally situated on the corner of Kalamazoo Avenue SE and Kendall Street SE to improve fire response times in this neighborhood. When complete, it will have 12 personnel assigned, resulting in a three-person engine crew 24/7/365.

In October, we celebrated the opening of The Farmstead by Resthaven, the newest senior living community in Holland. The project included 80 independent living apartments, 24 assisted living units, 24 cottages, and a commons building. We’re thrilled to see residents settling into their new homes.

Another major project we completed in 2024 was The Next Center in downtown Holland—a 20,000-square-foot facility housing Lakeshore Advantage’s SURGE program, headquarters, and resources for startups and second-stage companies.

This year, we introduced the HP SitePrint robot, nicknamed “EV3PO,” to streamline construction layouts. This cutting-edge technology has already made a big difference on projects like the Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital and Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health.

Our Facilities Services Division (FSD) continued to see massive growth in 2024, completing 175 projects with an impressive 65% year-over-year increase in average project value. This arm of our company can take on smaller projects from repairing a door to managing a small office renovation and everything in-between.

The EV Sweets & Treats Ice Cream Truck was added to our fleet in 2022 to show appreciation to our clients, trade partners, and surrounding community. It was busier than ever this year, handing out 10,000+ frozen treats at 49 events across West Michigan.

EV has a long-standing relationship with Quality Car Wash and Tommy Car Wash Systems and has had the pleasure of being the construction partner for many of their locations. This year, we completed the build for 3 new Tommy’s Express car washes in Michigan including Fort Gratiot, Lansing, and Muskegon as well as a location in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Another Tommy’s Express location is in the works in Coldwater, Michigan and will be completed shortly after the new year. Back here in Holland, we are working on Vision Quest’s World Model at their company headquarters which will be completed around the first quarter of 2025. With each build, we push ourselves to be better than before. Last month, we set a company record by completing a new Quality Car Wash in Zeeland in just five short months!

2024 was a big year for growth across our social media channels. Between Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, we welcomed over 2,000 new followers!
