EV's Community Safety Fund Supports Local High School's Program

HOLLAND, Mich., April 15, 2024 – EV Construction, headquartered in West Michigan, is proud to announce the donation of a new SawStop table saw to Saugatuck High School’s Industrial Education Program. The SawStop table saw is a valuable addition to the program, which offers a wide range of experiences and technical skill development to around 250 students each year. This donation marks over $15,000 in donations from EV’s employee-led Community Safety Fund.

EV Construction’s donation is part of the company’s commitment to giving back to the community, specifically in the area of safety. The company’s Community Safety Fund, founded in 2018, is funded by voluntary employee payroll deductions. The fund is used to support organizations that promote safety and well-being in the community. Some of the organizations that have been supported by this fund in the past include Muskegon Careerline Tech Center, the Boys and Girls Club, and Bethany Christian Services.

“We are thrilled to be able to donate this SawStop table saw to Saugatuck High School’s Industrial Education Program,” said John Parker, Vice President at EV Construction. “The special features of this tool will help to ensure the safety of students while they learn valuable woodworking skills.”

The SawStop table saw is equipped with a safety system that stops the spinning blade on contact with skin. The blade stops in less than five milliseconds and drops below the table, minimizing the risk of serious injury. This kind of innovation makes this piece of equipment perfect for a learning environment such as Saugatuck High School.

EV also shared that the company will be replacing all their traditional table saws with this technology. “It just makes sense to eliminate one more point of risk for our employees,” said Parker.

“My students and I are thrilled to have received a new SawStop table saw from EV Construction’s Community Safety Fund,” says Vince Heyser, Saugatuck High School’s Industrial Ed Teacher. “This addition will greatly improve the efficiency of our classes; we feel very fortunate. I believe students will see the valuable safety features of this saw and will consider upgrading the saws they use in their garages at home with a safer option.”
