We’re thrilled to share that George Martinez, Foreman in EV Construction’s Painting Division, has been selected as a nominee for Craft Professional of the Year! This prestigious nomination comes from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Western Michigan Chapter, recognizing George’s exceptional craftsmanship, leadership, and dedication to the trades.
From Early Beginnings to Journeyman Excellence
Growing up in a family of painters, George was immersed in craftsmanship from the start. What began with sweeping job sites and watching tool-wielding relatives soon blossomed into a burning passion for high‑quality workmanship—earning him journeyman status by age 20.
Overcoming Challenges, Mastering the Craft
Despite partial color-blindness, George mastered complex finishes, faux painting, and precision color blending. His work on custom homes and subdivision projects showcases not only technical skill, but resilience and creative problem-solving.
Leading with Purpose and Integrity
At EV Construction, George is more than a skilled painter—he’s a mentor, safety advocate, and team builder. Known for his patience, humility, and eye for detail, he sets the bar for job-site excellence and organization. He goes the extra mile by teaching new hires, translating materials, and delivering safety training in Spanish. His “Fatal Four” classes and contributions to our Alive365 Safety Week highlight his commitment to keeping everyone safe.
Championing Community and the Trades
Beyond our sites, George inspires future generations—volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, visiting schools, and guiding aspiring tradespeople. His advocacy for construction careers—and the support he offers—reflects a deep investment in our industry’s future.
Way to go George! Your hard work and leadership continue to elevate our team and community. We couldn’t be prouder! We look forward to celebrating this honor with you on September 18th at ABC’s annual Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony.
