We are thrilled to share that EV Construction has been awarded the 2025 Excellence Award by the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes organizations that do things “in an unmistakably different way.” For us, that means putting people first, embracing innovation, and holding ourselves to high standards every single day.
What This Recognition Means
The Excellence Award is deeply meaningful because it affirms what we believe: excellence isn’t something you occasionally achieve—it’s something you cultivate. For 80 years, EV Construction has been guided by values of care, integrity, safety, and quality. This award is less a destination than a visible sign of the collective effort of employees, clients, trade contractors, and community partners who live out those values every day.
What Defines EV Construction
- People First: From the jobsite to the boardroom, we focus on the human side of construction. Whether it’s through wellness programming, company retreats, or our corporate chaplaincy, we aim to support our team in their whole life—not just at work.
- Safety & Quality Without Compromise: Safety at EV is non-negotiable. Each year, we host Safety Week to reinforce this among employees, clients, and trade contractors. Quality isn’t a box to check—it’s what allows us to deliver work that meets or exceeds expectations.
- Partnership & Collaboration: We refer to our subcontractors as trade contractors because we truly see them as partners, not just suppliers or subcontracted labor. That shift isn’t just semantic—it reflects how we value collaboration and shared responsibility for success.
- Community & Workforce Development: We invest in the future of our industry through scholarships at the West Michigan Construction Institute (WMCI) and hands-on experiences at our annual Future Builders event. Our EV Sweets & Treats ice cream trucks travel to project sites and community events. We even have car-sized, driveable wooden shoes that march through local parades annually.
- Innovation & Growth: Whether through advanced scheduling tools like takt planning, expanding into new markets, or opening our Florida office, we embrace change when it helps us to raise our standard without losing our roots.
How We Got Here
Since our founding in 1945, EV Construction has grown from a small local firm into one that spans multiple states. Along the way, we’ve held fast to principles of integrity and hard work. Our journey has been shaped both by tradition—and by a willingness to evolve.
We believe safety, workforce development, and community involvement are not extras—they’re essential. Initiatives such as scholarship programs, mentorship, and engaging with future builders help ensure we are not only building structures, but building opportunities.
A recent book, Right-Brain Justified: Scaling Cultures Through Unmistakable Leaders, highlights our story as proof that excellence isn’t tied to one leader or one moment—it’s something that continues to be passed forward from one generation of EV team members to the next.
Looking Forward
Winning the Excellence Award is humbling. It shows that our efforts are seen; but more than that, it inspires us to keep growing. We don’t take this recognition as a final mark, but as motivation—to keep pushing for safety, quality, innovation, and service in everything we do.
As EV Construction moves into the future—building on 80 years of legacy, expanding our reach, and deepening our community roots—we remain committed to one core idea: excellence is not something you win. It’s something you build, every day, around people.
