On Friday, September 26th, the City of Grand Rapids officially celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the new Kendall Fire Station, and EV Construction is proud to have been the construction partner on this important community project.

This station is especially significant—it is the first new fire station built in Grand Rapids in nearly 40 years. The investment reflects the city’s commitment to strengthening public safety infrastructure and providing first responders with the modern facilities they need to serve the community.

The Kendall Fire Station features updated living quarters, training areas, equipment storage, and rapid-response capabilities—all designed to support the essential, around-the-clock work of the Grand Rapids Fire Department. Built with durability, functionality, and comfort in mind, the new station gives firefighters the tools and space required to carry out their lifesaving mission.

The project also carries with it a piece of history. A century-old white pine oak tree—estimated to be between 150 to 200 years old—once stood on the land where the new station now sits. Firefighters knew they wanted to preserve the tree’s legacy. The wood was carefully repurposed into a handcrafted conference table and incorporated into accent walls throughout the new station, allowing a piece of the past to live on within the space.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked more than just the opening of a building; it celebrated a historic moment for the city, as well as the firefighters and community members who will benefit from it for decades to come. City officials, fire department leadership, community members, and project partners gathered to tour the station and recognize the teamwork that brought this long-awaited project to life.

At EV Construction, we are honored to play a role in projects that make a lasting impact in our communities. The Kendall Fire Station will not only serve as a workplace and home for the firefighters who protect Grand Rapids, but it also represents the city’s investment in safety, sustainability, and preparedness for future generations.
