CSX Celebrates Tulip Time Festival with Vibrant Locomotive Decorations in Partnership with EV Construction
Holland, Michigan – May 20, 2024
CSX is thrilled to announce the overwhelming positive reception from the public towards the decorated CSX locomotive that featured giant tulip cutouts during the City of Holland’s annual Tulip Time festival from May 4-12, 2024. This initiative was made possible through a unique collaboration between CSX, EV Construction, and the dedicated train crew of the Y121.
As part of the festivities, a CSX locomotive was adorned with vibrant tulip cutouts, echoing the decoration by EV Construction at their nearby construction site. This creative idea originated from a shared vision to bring festive joy and a floral tribute to the residents and visitors of Holland, Michigan, enhancing the scenic beauty of the Dock Track area.
“The idea to decorate our locomotive came from our own crew members, Engineer Herb Theadore and Conductor Chris Larson, who were inspired by the decorations at the EV Construction site,” said a CSX spokesperson. “Their initiative and collaboration with Joe Shashaguay, Jr., Field Manager for EV Construction, who generously provided the tulip cutouts, exemplifies the strong community bonds and mutual respect fostered along our routes.”
The decorated locomotive became a highlight of the Tulip Time festival, drawing smiles, waves, and countless photographs from festival-goers. This decoration not only beautified the route but also highlighted the importance of community and corporate collaboration in enhancing local cultural events.
“Participating in the Tulip Time festival has been an honor, and seeing the joy our tulip adorned locomotive brought to people’s faces has been incredibly rewarding,” said Chris
Larson, Conductor of the Y121. “It’s a testament to how small gestures can make a big impact in the community.”
CSX is committed to supporting the communities where we operate and is proud to have contributed to the success of Holland’s Tulip Time festival through this creative and
collaborative effort. We look forward to more opportunities to engage with our communities and partners like EV Construction to continue making a positive impact.
