Located on Pine Rest’s Grand Rapids 220-acre park-like campus, this multi-level facility will provide a warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere for families.Taking inspiration from the wooded site, a treehouse theme inspired the design, infusing the center with the freedom and refuge the forest provides. Extensive research and experience guided the design for this remarkable 136,000-SF facility.
The first floor will host a 66-bed inpatient unit, a psychiatric urgent care center, and multiple spaces to support family and caregivers including a family lounge, cafeteria, and chapel. The inpatient unit will include a treatment mall, a gym, a kid-friendly dining room, a technology classroom, and an art room. The second floor will house an eating disorders clinic, a substance use disorder clinic, autism services and partial hospitalization programs.
The project has many outdoor spaces including pocket parks, a private staff patio and several secure outdoor courtyards for inpatient units.

Site Development
Working on an active hospital campus surrounded by a quiet residential neighborhood required our team to be careful, considerate, and communicative. Each step from tree clearing to asphalt paving needed to be planned down to the hour to ensure that campus security and the interest of the neighbors were taken into consideration.
Self-Performed Trades
EV Construction provided all the interior trades to the Pine Rest project including metal framing, gypsum assemblies, firestopping, painting and carpentry. Our finish carpentry teams collaborated with the talented designers at BWBR to create a vibrent, fun child-oriented interior experience.
Efficiency through Technology
The project team employed a host of technology through the planning and execution of the Pine Rest project, including BIM, virtual design tours, robotic wall layout, and augmented reality (AR) quality controls. With such a complicated healthcare environment, the use of these technologies was critical to keep the project ahead of schedule.
