Sunset Senior Communities takes senior care to a higher level with upgraded facilities

Sunset Retirement Communities strives to continually enhance the quality of life for seniors in west Michigan.  The combination of exceptional care and modern, homelike facilities make Sunset a leader in senior care. Sunset recently completed two facility enhancements and is underway with a major expansion to their Waterford Place campus.

The Rose Garden, located on Prairie Street in Grandville, underwent $700,000 worth of upgrades over the past four months. EV Construction partnered with Sunset to add 900-SF and renovate 1,000-SF of adjacent space. The renovated areas included a new reception counter, technology space, sitting area and nurse station. The addition provides a new place for residents to gather and visit with family and friends.

Concurrent to the Rose Garden addition, EV Construction was helping Sunset Senior Communities renovate the existing pool area at The Manor & Villages location on Baldwin Street in Jenison. This project included the renovation of an entire pool room including floor and wall tile, new pool finishes, roof replacement, skylight/lighting changes and a new pool office. The 52 foot by 28 foot, 44,000 gallon pool, in its newly updated space is a welcome sight for community residents. The Manor Pool Renovations and Rose Garden Expansion were designed by The Architectural Group of Grandville.

In late 2020, Sunset broke ground on The Cove at Waterford Place.  The Cove will add 20 lakeside independent living villas to campus, which will have the feel of an intimate neighborhood.  Along with the Cove, Sunset is also planning the Glens at Waterford Place, a project that will complete a 15-year master plan on the Jenison property.

The Glens, being constructed by The Christman Company/EV Construction Joint Venture partnership, will begin in the spring of 2021.  The project will add 168,000-SF of new construction to the campus and include 62 independent living apartments. Other amenities in the expansion will include a Chapel, covered parking and enhancements to resident dining options.

The Glens and Cove projects were designed by Hobbs and Black Architects of Ann Arbor. Sunset Senior Communities has $30 million invested in this third phase.
