Brio plans $130M upgrade for aging porter hills campus

Porter Hills Grand Rapids The H.I.V.E. Site Plan EV Construction

Senior living provider Brio Living Services plans to invest up to $130 million to develop new facilities at the Porter Hills Village campus in Grand Rapids.

The project would replace aging facilities for assisted living, memory support, and nursing care and add 55 to 60 independent-living apartments to meet the growing demand for senior housing in Grand Rapids.

Some of the buildings at the Porter Hills campus at Fulton Street SE and I-96 are more than 50 years old past their useful life, said Brio Living Services President and CEO Steve Fetyko.

“We need to be able to reinvest in those buildings to make them the home that people want to live in for the next 50 years,” Fetyko said. “It’s kind of that natural life cycle where the building served us well, it’s been a great home, but buildings don’t last forever, and they don’t always stand the test of time for what consumers and customers expect.”

About 400 people now reside at the Porter Hills Village campus that consists of about 200 independent apartments, 100 assisted-living and memory care units, and 39 beds for nursing care. Read the rest of the article at CrainsGrandRapids.com
