Built Around Community: EV Construction’s Role in Holland’s Tulip Time Festival

EV Construction Tulip Time Festival Holland Michigan

Every spring, downtown Holland transforms into a sea of color as millions of tulips bloom throughout the city for the annual Tulip Time Festival. As one of the largest festivals in Michigan and a beloved tradition for our community, Tulip Time brings together residents, visitors, volunteers, and local businesses to celebrate the rich Dutch heritage that makes Holland unique.

For EV Construction, Tulip Time is more than just a week-long event. It’s an opportunity to support the community we call home and help create memorable experiences for the thousands of people who visit Holland each year.

Building the Tulip Immersion Garden

One of the most unique ways our team supports the festival is through our partnership with the Tulip Time Festival to assemble and construct the Tulip Immersion Garden.

Designed as an immersive floral experience, the garden is a massive installation that must be carefully assembled piece by piece each year. Our team often compares it to building an enormous puzzle. Every component must fit together perfectly to bring the vision to life. From planning and logistics to hands-on construction, it takes precision, teamwork, and craftsmanship to ensure the experience is ready to welcome visitors when the festival begins.

The final result is a colorful and interactive destination that has quickly become a favorite photo opportunity during Tulip Time. Watch this video to learn more!

Wooden Shoes That Turn Heads

Another beloved Tulip Time tradition for EV Construction is our pair of 12-foot-long drivable wooden shoes.

Built in 2017 by EV craftspeople, the shoes required more than 950 man-hours to complete and showcase the creativity and talent of our team. Since their debut, the shoes have become a recognizable part of local parades, bringing smiles to crowds during both Tulip Time festivities and Holland’s annual Christmas parade.

Each year, EV employees volunteer their time to drive the shoes through parade routes, helping spread excitement and community spirit throughout downtown Holland. Watch the video here!

A Front-Row Seat to the Tulips

Our headquarters in downtown Holland sits directly across from Window on the Waterfront, home to some of the area’s most photographed tulip displays.

To help visitors celebrate the season, our team designs and installs a large, colorful photo-op banner each year, giving locals and tourists a fun place to capture memories during Tulip Time. Throughout the festival, we love seeing visitors stop by to take selfies, family photos, and group pictures surrounded by Holland’s famous blooms.

Supporting Local Landmarks

Tulip Time also shines a spotlight on another iconic Holland destination: Windmill Island Gardens. Known for its authentic Dutch windmill and vibrant tulip gardens, the park has long been an important part of the community and festival experience.

Over the years, EV Construction has had the privilege of working on various projects at Windmill Island Gardens, helping preserve and improve one of Holland’s most recognizable landmarks for future generations to enjoy. Watch the video here!

Built Around Community

At EV Construction, we believe construction is about more than buildings — it’s about people, partnerships, and community. Tulip Time represents so much of what makes Holland special: tradition, teamwork, hospitality, and pride in where we live and work.

We’re honored to play a small part in helping bring the festival to life each year and look forward to continuing these traditions for many seasons to come.
